What are your personal memories of September 11th?
Andrew's mother called us appalled that we didn't have the television on. We'd barely been awake and I remember I was running late and Andrew was staying home that day so I had to take the train to work. I watched just a few minutes of coverage and walked to the train shaking my head. I was more shocked by the fact that the newscaster just kept saying "I can't believe someone could do this to us" than the fact that the Trade Center had been attacked. I read my book on the train, got to work and brought CNN up in the background while I did some work. After about 10 minutes a co-worker (who was a bit of a freak) came up and said "I can't believe you're working at a time like this. Come watching the news in the conference room with everyone." Just after I walked into the conference room I saw the buildings fall. I remember thinking "I didn't need to see" that as I walked back to my desk. At about 10:30 or company closed and sent everyone home. I got home, to a condo we'd bought two weeks before, and several friends came over and we grilled and hung out on the deck. Some people spent a lot of time watching TV others spent time on the deck avoiding the TV. I remember one friend saying, "I only need to see people jumping out of the building once. And my watching the TV isn't going to change anything and its too soon to get any real news, so beer!"
Shortly after we left one friend to take a nap on the sofa and then we went to watch Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. It was a bad movie, and it was us and two other people in the entire theater. We were upset because we wanted to have the theater to ourselves. And as we grumble about it, we all kinda stop and say "We're at a movie, we're safe, we got nothing to complain about."
